Nursing

From time and since the concept was first established, the demand for nursing has been increasing rapidly and even more so in the foreseeable future. At Premium Line Healthcare Solutions, we understand today’s challenge of recruiting and retaining qualified nurses.

We pride ourselves in working close with many NHS Trusts and private sectors across the UK to understand their needs and requirements of nursing roles, while we find the best nurses with consideration and fit with the values and ethos of our clients.

Our nursing pool consists of a variety of roles from Registered General Nurses (RGN), Mental Health Nurses (MNH), Community Nurses, A&E Nurses to Specialist Nurses.

We are flexible with our Nurses, making sure are in full of control of your bookings. You can choose your own shifts, whether you’d like to work selected days from a 7-day rota or explore bloc bookings. If you prefer to have variety in your work and have the relevant experience, you can choose to mix both hospital-ward based roles and community roles; your choice is based on your flexibility.

Nursing

Nursing is a profession within the health care sector focused on providing care to individuals, families and communities so the recipients may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life. Nurses play significant roles in hospitals, clinics and private practices and dispatch duties including communicating between patients and doctors, caring for patients, administering medication and supervising nurses' aides. Nursing practice is split into many speciality disciplines.

Working as a Nurse requires genuine and compassionate people who are drawn to caring for the sick and unwell, and wanting to make a positive difference to the patients’ lives. All nurses working in the UK must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and will receive their unique NMC Pin which allows them to find work.

Roles & responsibilities of a Nurse

Nurses perform many professional tasks which may differ based on where they work or what area they specialise in. General nursing duties include:

  • Performing physical exams.
  • Obtaining medical/health histories.
  • Providing patients with health promotion, counselling, and education.
  • Administering medications, wound care, and other health interventions.
  • Coordinating patient care collectively with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Supervising staff such as nursing assistants and healthcare assistants.
  • Taking part in critical decision making.
  • Monitoring the progress of patients and reporting back to their families.
  • Writing care plans and records.
  • Utilising communication and interpersonal skills to create a bona fide relationship with patients and their families.

As a Nurse, you are required to care for patients and their families in the same way we would want for our loved-ones. You must be compassionate, have good ethics, be adaptable and confident. Quick thinking and attention to detail is very important in the role.

Qualifications, skills & experience required

In order to work as a nurse a nursing degree is required in one of the four nursing specialisms; adult nursing, children's nursing, learning disability nursing or mental health nursing. All nurses who have qualified will receive a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Pin which is registered with the NMC. Any nurse wanting to work in the UK will be required to have this. Employers expect good literacy and numeracy and may enquire about GCSEs in English and Maths. Nurses must have:

  • A nursing degree and a valid NMC pin.
  • Minimum 6 months experience in a similar role.
  • Empathy and sensitivity to patients’ needs and concerns.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A friendly, enthusiastic, and approachable character, who can build a strong rapport with patients and their families.
  • Excellent practical and organisational skills.
  • Capable of working both independently and in a team.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, stay focused, and willingness to be flexible.
  • Attention to detail and quick problem-solving skills.

As a nurse you must have a genuine interest in helping people to maintain their quality of life whilst having the ability to inspire positivity and confidence around patients who may feel the opposite. You must be patient, kind and sympathetic to the difficulties that an individual face. You will make a positive difference in the lives of others which is extremely rewarding.

Hours of work & environment

A working week can be very different depending on the area you cover, the type of nursing qualification you have and the hours you do. Nursing provides great flexibility, offering both part-time and full-time hours across various shifts. You can also choose to work within a hospital ward-based role, within the community or a mix of both. The hours can sometimes be considered unsociable, with evening and weekend work as well as night shifts. At Premium Line Health Care, your dedicated recruitment consultant will be with you every step of the way, ensuring you find the right nursing position that suits you.

Career progression & beyond…

Nursing is a responsible and rewarding career, but it is not always easy. Developing skills such as stress management, listening skills, compassion, and inner strength can help nurses face the daily challenges of their chosen career path. Nursing positions are split into different bands all of which have different salaries. With the right guidance and support network, you can progress your career moving from a general nurse, to nurse specialist, matron and nurse consultant where earnings can exceed £50,000.
